In their effort to better the lives of others, Superintendent Doug Coates and his colleague Sergeant Mark Gallagher willingly made sacrifices and ultimately gave their lives for this noble cause. Doug and Mark are true heroes. They will be deeply missed by all who knew them.
At the time of his tragic death, Doug was doing what he did so well - leading an international peacekeeping operation. He was the Acting Commissioner of Operations for the United Nations Stabilization Mission in Haiti.
Sgt. Gallagher died while serving on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Haiti. Mark deployed to Haiti on a nine-month United Nations Peacekeeping mission. His duties in Haiti included working on Project Coordination.

The LGen R.R. Crabbe Chapter pays tribute to the four members of the Royal Canadian Mounted Police who were shot and killed after conducting a routine investigation on a marijuana grow operation northwest of Edmonton on March 3, 2004.
It's the single deadliest incident for Canada's national police force in 120 years. The killing of the four officers appears to be unprecedented in modern Canadian history. "You'd have to go back to 1885, to the Northwest Rebellion, to have a loss of this magnitude. It's devastating"
We Will Remember Them
