For all of you who wish to attend the Biennial General Meeting in September of this year in Winnipeg, the following information is provided.
This city has a rich history starting with the First Nations ,followed by the Hudson’s Bay Company with all the quality of character of the Scots making this province the “Gateway to the West ”,and a marvelous place to live.
- This Chapter will assist your visit with the following information:
- A shuttle service will be provided from the airport to the Hotel as much as possible. Sunday’s return to the airport will also be available on a limited basis.
- Please advise of any special needs such as diet and mobility.
- We do have some subsidized accommodation available on request.
- Mosquito cannons will be issued to those comrades who feel that they can shoot the biggest trophy mosquito over the week-end. This competition is open to all. See “The Royal Canadian Air Farce” and “Corner Gas “ for the contest rules. NO, I repeat NO mosquito repellent shall be worn by any of these warriors whilst on the hunt !

Anavets 283 is located in the west end of Winnipeg on Portage Avenue near the Perimeter Highway. The Super 8 and Howard Johnson are both well within walking distance of the Unit, about 1 block away.
There are several places to eat in the immediate area including Burger King, MacDonalds, Tim Hortons, KFC/Taco Bell, Chicken Shack, The Wok House, Subway and Quiznos, just to name a few.
Also, directly across the street is Unicity Shopping Centre which houses Wal Mart, Winners, Marks Work Warehouse and several other stores.
For those more ambitious there is good bus service that can take you to Polo Park Shopping Centre (about 20 min bus ride) which is said to be Winnipeg's finest shopping centre with over 200 stores and services including the Bay, Sears, Zellers, Safeway and SilverCity.
The Forks - An ancient meeting place at the junction of the Red and Assinaboine Rivers for the First Nations People and a marvelous place to look at history and lots of shopping facilities.
The Royal Canadian Mint
Various local museums including the Royal Winnipeg Rifles, Queen’s Own Cameron Highlanders of Canada, 17 Wing Museum, and an excellent museum in the Billy Bishop Building on the base as well.
Fort Whyte Park is an excellent place to see the Canada “Goosies” heading to Las Vegas, Arizona and points south to see the other snowbirds. Cowards! For nature lovers, this is one place in Winnipeg that you won’t want to miss! Fort Whyte is Winnipeg’s award-winning nature centre.
